In the stillness of the late autumn afternoon the young girl looks upon the darkening heavens and comments the skies fall dark too early…and with youthful melody says…if I ever feel the light again shining down on me I don’t have to tell you how welcome that will be.  It makes me smile because it catches me off guard…because it confirms the essence of our conversation despite every previous indication that nothing was making an impression…and because it reminds me of youthful playfulness, innocence and hope.  It’s easy, she realizes, how sometimes the simplest things can seem to slip away if we let them…how sometimes we are tempted to hide what we are feeling inside because tomorrow can seem so far away…and every instinct tells us that no matter how loud we shout out our pain not a single soul will hear us.  When really it would take us by surprise and help us realize that saying things out-loud is what really sets us free…no matter who hears us…because sometimes we just need to listen to the sound of our own voice to find our way out of the darkness – to find the light.  I just keep believing that it will come back soon, I add…in her eyes I can see she knows what I mean…and she smiles back at me.

I do a number of things professionally...but most of all and the true purpose of what I do through "my work" is to provide for my family, be a good husband and great father, and try to make a difference as a world citizen...I guess it's not much more complicated than that 🙂
