My son comes across the floor and looks at me with a stern and focused face and says quite pointedly, “Ma ma un na eeya”…there are some guttural sounds in the mix, but ends quite clearly with “Uh-oh!”…then breaks in to extended infectious laughter.  I join in because, well quite clearly this is a funny matter and Alex is…I think developing his mischievous sense of humor with some intent, which I find a little hilarious.  Uh-oh has become his ubiquitous interjection of dismay (there’s too many puzzle pieces), perception of something bad that has already happened (a cupboard door has been left open), his sly admittance of guilt (milk painting with his bottle), anticipation of something bad about to happen (hearing the cat meowing at the back door), and notice that some disaster IS happening (pushing his bowl of mangoes off the edge of his highchair).  This morning however, his intent I believe is simply to get a reaction out of Dad…simply because he cannot maintain the ruse and laughs to soon, and seeing me respond with laughter only heightens his reaction. He quickly runs over and crashes into me, beckons to be lifted up where he cuddles-in still laughing and nestles his head into my chest and quiets…which is pure Alex showing his affection and love.  Then just as quickly he wrestles away and runs a few steps, stops and cocks his head deviously in my direction…and watches me out of the corner of his eye waiting for me to say something. “Uh-oh!”, I exclaim…and he squeals with joy and runs out of the room…and I feel happy and fortunate and blessed to be his Dad.
