The Hereditary Chief stands and everyone looks toward her…she is upset and frustrated and the heaviness of it shows. When we say mean things and call each other down, she starts…we breathe that in, she continues with a deep and troubled breath, and her voice trembles…we breathe that in! The pain is evident and the old woman struggles in it all…my heart becomes heavy and sad and I want to cry…still she works through her message with courage and resolution and all the right words. She ends with the promise of hope and love…and sets all our minds at ease that we are all in her heart now…I am inspired. In the quietness that follows we all take heed…humbled to have been allowed to hear her message…and breathe deeply and better because of it.
