Today my mind was on a little girl we hardly knew, separated by an ocean of sea and culture and bureaucracy about 4 years ago…whom we loved so dearly and missed so deeply that it kept us awake at night and made our hearts ache so. I wondered sometimes if our love was strong enough to bring you home across that great divide…I was answered by your smiles and giggles the first night we shared together as a family in the heart of China…and the truth was revealed that all things are possible with love, faith and time. A few heartbeats later a different kind of heart ache slowly sparks inside as you grow up and take flight…it’s all happening a little too fast…a lament you’ll likely hear from me for as long as I have breath say it. Still on this first day of Kindergarten I am so very proud of you and your eagerness…so much excitement you vibrated in anticipation before we even got into the car…creating smiles and delight for all of us. I hope that your love of learning and new things is a fire that never fades little one…because it is this passion and joy which resonates throughout you that keeps the anguish of you growing up so fast…just barely tolerable.
