The darkness when you are camping in the middle of nowhere, and you haven’t seen another soul for hours, and when you are truly disconnected from the world…is a whole other experience. You forget how much the wilderness talks in the night, swaying trees and the cooling earth and how it comes alive with nocturnal and curious creatures…who are oft not shy about letting you know that YOU are out of place in this dark and wild place – it’s still nonetheless calming and I relax into it. I can’t see beyond my camp fire and the light of my iPad, an abhorrence I am sure for all the little beady eyes watching me, and I while I can hear the migration of creatures around my camp over the crackles and popping of the fire…this is it…peace and not-so-quiet and the forgotten wonder of being offline.
