I point to the words “Priority Post” on the beat up oversize envelope after its handed to me and ask the Canada Post Employee what it means…and she says with a big emphatic smile and big teeth, “Super Fast!”.   I turn the package over to the tracking-slip that shows the date it was mailed…I point to February 6, 2103…and she looks at me slightly confused until I remind her that its March 2nd.  Her metamorphosis is stunning…the smile evaporates, her body noticeably contorts and her head slightly tilts – her eyes actually narrow as she focuses in on me and then she says…”Well, I am not sure what you would like me to do about THAT exactly?”  I give her a couple of polite suggestions to consider…honestly I do…and end with an observation that she might want to read up on Canada Posts on-time delivery guarantee (what ever that might mean, since it’s clearly not something anyone at Canada Post seems to take too seriously).  As I walk out of the building it resonates with me that this experience exemplifies everything that is wrong crown corporations and monopolized government services…that perhaps employees should serve with purpose, not entitlement…that every time you fail a customer, you fail a citizen, and you fail this country.
