Picasso said that art is a way of dusting off one’s soul…or something like that.  I think what he was saying was simply that art…the creation of art, no matter its form or substance and as solely defined by the doer – the artist…is a way for our soul to ignite an alternate perception of reality that celebrates the very essence it contemplates.  I think children understand this best, they tend to draw and color and make all kinds of art…a lot of it, and with loads of creative vigor, passion and interpretation that while sometimes vexing to parents…is nonetheless very clear and purposeful to the young artist.  More so though…and this what my children remind me of often…is that when it comes right down to it, the world is not terribly complicated.  Most everything it seems…can be interpreted and understood through any assorted application of colors and shapes, scissors, glue and tape…and big huge smile.

About Lawrence Lewis

I do a number of things professionally...but most of all and the true purpose of what I do through "my work" is to provide for my family, be a good husband and great father, and try to make a difference as a world citizen...I guess it's not much more complicated than that 🙂
