She takes my hand and pulls me in closer to her and asks what they say to me…my heart skips and I can feel everything well up inside me…her old eyes twinkle and look patiently into me. They say work hard, I reply…nervous and cautious for some reason in avoiding direct connection with her gaze, and then add…they say work hard and change the world, and remember where you come from. In the background old and young men beat against the old wooden log…they sing and chorus ancient songs of lore and ritual, amplifying this rhythm, it causes the air to shift around us – through us…and I can feel through the old women’s hand that her heart is beating the same cadence. It causes me to look directly at her…into her eyes…and in that moment I can feel all the pin points of my life shift and recalibrate in a much better way. Work hard then, she says with a smile and releases my hand…and it’s like I have been pushed away toward a tremendous adventure…everything, I understand is changed forever, and I smile too.

I do a number of things professionally...but most of all and the true purpose of what I do through "my work" is to provide for my family, be a good husband and great father, and try to make a difference as a world citizen...I guess it's not much more complicated than that 🙂
