I wonder…just how thin the veneer may be…the membrane that keeps our world civil, contained and anarchy free. It’s not like we really believe it to be that substantive in the first place…but I think we would all be a little surprised at just how fragile our ‘society’ really is. It seems in so many ways we are heading at a break neck pace toward the ledge we all see…and still we ignore the obvious and looming danger, and press ahead…for all the good reasons of today, but for all the wrong reasons for tomorrow. It’s not so much that a rapid collapse of society scares me…it’s that it will be a slow and agonizing failure that partially, but never fully recovers, from our heroic efforts during its final days…and that what remains will be some critically broken but not quite retired civilization that lingers on for decades. I think we are in for that rough ride…that’s what scares me…and the veneer just keeps getting thinner.

The universe may have a purpose, but nothing we know suggests that, if so, this purpose has any similarity to ours.  ~Bertrand Russell

About Lawrence Lewis

I do a number of things professionally...but most of all and the true purpose of what I do through "my work" is to provide for my family, be a good husband and great father, and try to make a difference as a world citizen...I guess it's not much more complicated than that 🙂
