How do you create and erect a 90 foot totem pole? You decide to be bold and do something beyond the limitations of your physical and mental reach…you decide to act with such boldness and resolve that the perceived and understood world in which you exist is redefined by your vision of what is possible. Our ancestors understood this…they lived a life of considerable challenge and change – much more so than any of us could even imagine today – yet they persevered and not only protected and preserved a way of life that are our box of treasures today…they did so with elegance and pride, and purpose. Somehow…the courage to be bold, and to act in such trans-formative ways has been confused with a modern establishment of Indian politics, community and culture too often absolute in its resistance to such things. As if the courage to be bold and courageous somehow offends our ancestors and depletes our box of treasures? I would suggest – and indeed live my life otherwise – to not be bold, and not act with courageous vision and demonstrated resolve…is the real affront…not only to our ancestors, but to the living hearts and souls whose box of treasures we have a duty to safe guard, invest and celebrate. Be bold…expect no less from anyone else…and dream about what is beyond your natural grasp, so that you will know anything is possible.
