I love the feel of new jeans…the texture and fibers of the denim resonate for me…it’s there unpolished sensation that appeals and evokes powerful sentiment, I am not sure how else to describe it. I also appreciate the message implied, or explicit, that suggests new jeans also mean a new ‘you’…in this case a new ‘me’…or at least less of me, lol. Growing up…living a much less abundant and comfortable life…new jeans only came once a year – the start of the school year. Which only magnified the importance of crisp and new denim…501’s and button flies, stonewashed and tattered blues – these things defined and silently confirmed your your status and worthiness. I am older now and much less (in fact not at all) concerned about these things…still, new jeans, and in-particular new jeans that are 4 inches less than the ones now resting in the recycle bin…elicit new confirmations and sentiments which make me feel good, and better, in more ways than I ever did walking through those schools doors each September so long ago.
