…and it did not have much to say. In fact he just watched me pass with stainless steel eyes and a quick flick of the air with his tongue to measure my purpose and intent. I paused when my reflection caught the polished onyx orb and like a crystal ball showed me the future…it seemed certain and uncertain in the same instance…and revealed just enough to value the present even more. For a second the sun broke through the clouds and momentarily distracted the gleaming creature, and I took a quick picture with my iPhone to prove my tale. When it looked back I was already taking my exit and I said, “You remind me of my daughter…strong, purposeful, confident and beautiful.” The animal of course did not reply, but there seemed to emerge a sly smile as we departed company as if to confirm my meaning…and really one should not expect much more from a dragon.
