There are four of us…2 brothers and 2 sisters.  All born of the same man and woman…which seems a little odd to have to say, but in this day and age it probably needs to be stated…and certainly relevant for this story, lol.  Our father is a West Coast Indian of mixed descent, and by the theories and applications of Federal Government blood quantum assessment…a true “half – breed” BUT only by these definitions.  Our mother’s blood line is far more mosaic and rooted well in somewhat generic European ancestry…which then makes all of us children one-quarter Indian…hopefully you’ve been able to follow the blood quantum math.  Diane is youngest…and much to the mild chagrin of all of her older siblings inherited all the best physical features of being Indian: dark skin and eyes, chocolate hair, tall and thin, wonderful cheek and facial structure – beautiful…practically Pocahontas (at least by Disney standards).  The rest of us, well when the sun comes out our hair goes golden blonde, our skin is not much darker than 20lb photocopier paper, blue-green eyes and not so tall and thin…still, the remaining three of us are nonetheless very good looking – though probably not-so-much by Disney standards, ha ha ha.  None of this really matters of course, and especially so today, as its Diane’s birthday…she’s is all grown up with 3 wonderful sons and by every measure a successful woman, a proud and caring mother, and a tremendous little sister to all of us.  Happy Birthday Diane…lot’sa love, hugs and kisses on this very special day!
