It only takes a fraction of a second for the joy and manic performance to be broken…the corner of the dining table in an unfamiliar setting helps…Alex finds it within minutes of our settling in to our suite while sprinting around, jumping and otherwise being a delightful, happy and excited little boy.  Instantly, the welt on his forehead emerges and swells seemingly exponentially every second…Tannis cradles him and tries to soothe him, and like every good mom, simultaneously does everything to calm him, assess and treat the the injury and take control of the situation.  I am less helpful…but I do manage to find a cloth and wet it with cold water, and place another in reserve in the freezer just in case the goose-egg does not stop growing…and within a minute or two, our little lad is laughing again and apparently no worse for wear.  I sit across from them watching as together they emerge from this traumatic event…and I see the power of a mothers embrace and a son’s devotion…a combination so powerful it extinguishes all pain and suffering.

About Lawrence Lewis

I do a number of things professionally...but most of all and the true purpose of what I do through "my work" is to provide for my family, be a good husband and great father, and try to make a difference as a world citizen...I guess it's not much more complicated than that 🙂
