It’s a bit of an unfair advantage…technology today allows me to stay connected to my family in ways my father only dreamed…and his father could have never imagined.  Today we know that when a child experiences a prolonged separation from a parent they can actually go through the same grieving processes they would as if the parent were actually deceased.  For every child this threshold will be different, but it can be for as short a period as a week without any physical or direct contact with a parent…imagine that.  I am thankful for many things in my life…and today I am especially thankful that when I am away from home for any extended period of time I can call home and have a real-time face-to-face conversation with the people I love…so they can see their father smile and engage and laugh directly with them…so that we are never truly disconnected…so that we are never truly separated.
