There is really no subtlety in dreams…and even with most of our dreams muddled with shadows and colors…if you can capture a fragment of consciousness inside your dreams you’ll discover that it is the most clarity you may ever know. I dreamed last night that I walked down our hallway in bare feet from a perspective just below my knees…and wandered about stepping over plastic dinosaurs and toy cars…and side stepped stuffed animals and a pink cradle with children’s books inside. At the side of my son’s crib I listened…and my soul sang out and joined the chorus of the rhythms of his gentle breathing…I lingered as long as dreams permit and fell away slowly. Across the floor a rubber ball roles up to me and then mysteriously diverts away and a few steps later I lift and move aside a small orange shoe with my toes…and the touch of the fabric against my skin triggers the echoes of his laughter and the pitter-patter of his own escapades down the same hallway. I realize as I walk barefoot through my home…I am celebrating with each step being a father and all the blessing of my life…and as the dream fades I am overcome with it all, and it’s tears that happily wake me.
