Kate grabs my face with both hands…little hands on my big cheeks, pressing hard and smooshing them together…steering my eyes toward hers.  We look at each other grinning…and I can see her dark beautiful little eyes darting slightly all around as she searches my eyes…and I realize she is looking into me, searching for what she needs in the reflection of my mine.  If eyes are the windows to our souls…children know this most of all, even if not understanding such things…they fully understand the importance of it.  It’s a simple gesture though that I take notice of…because it means some emotional nurturing is needed…perhaps for her, and but also perhaps for me. Her gaze only lasts a few seconds but it’s purposeful and reveals a subtle measure of our relationship right before my eyes…and offered everything I need to know about the moments that have to follow…creating time for connection and the natural bond between father and daughter.

About Lawrence Lewis

I do a number of things professionally...but most of all and the true purpose of what I do through "my work" is to provide for my family, be a good husband and great father, and try to make a difference as a world citizen...I guess it's not much more complicated than that 🙂
