I think when we cry we accomplish a lot…it’s both a physical and spiritual cleansing often essential for so many reason.  I think we sometimes underestimate the purpose of crying…I think we misunderstand its importance…I think we are afraid to cry for all the wrong reason.  I am reminded by my son that sometimes we cry because the world is a big and confusing place, and the immediacy of a frustration is worth crying about…if only, to come to terms with limitations and move on to the next new moment. We cry, my daughter showed me today, because we have fallen down and in order to get back up and take on the world we first must get mad at it…scream and exorcise our fears…and through tears render new resolve and determination. My children remind me that mostly we cry for good reason…that the act brings the love and embrace from those we trust and need…and with its conclusion, a new clarity and focus and calmness. We cry for so many good reason as children… and then we ‘hush’ these traits into adulthood, rather than nurture and develop the restorative nature and purpose of crying. I suspect, as I have seen in my children, that if we cried a little more often for the right reasons the world might just be a much better place.

About Lawrence Lewis

I do a number of things professionally...but most of all and the true purpose of what I do through "my work" is to provide for my family, be a good husband and great father, and try to make a difference as a world citizen...I guess it's not much more complicated than that 🙂
